Holiday Gift Guide 09: Action Adventures
Posted in Holiday Gift Guide 09 by Nick Ward on Monday 30 November 2009 7:13 pm
We’ve had our fair share of Action Adventure titles this year. Rocksteady’s Arkham Asylum surprised us, Tim Schafer’s latest project brought out the roadie in us all and Assassin’s Creed II put us back in the Animus. Whether your idea of fun involves jumping between carriages on a moving train, lurking in the shadows or working on your air assassinations there’s something here for us all. Like the season, it’s the genre that keeps giving and there’s sure to be a title here worthy of just that.

I think as the years go by it’s going to get harder and harder to nail down this particular list. Such an outstanding performance throughout the year makes this our favourite category. Hats off to Xbox Live’s ‘Summer of Arcade’ for keeping our thumbs active and beating the inevitable summer drought, if this doesn’t prove that digital distribution is here to stay, I don’t know what will. So here they are, our top five six downloadable games of the year, they’ve all earned their rightful place on this guide!

What’s a year in gaming without a good Shooter? Our favourite pastime is only made better by the tallying up of a sweet killing spree. Gone are the days of multitaps and numerous controllers lying around; us gamers do our fragging exclusively online. As the FPS genre grows we’ve begun to see that glimmer of beauty behind the smokey war-zone, an in-depth story that’s more captivating than the weapon you’re wielding. Yeah we love to shoot and kill but that’s not the point; all of the games below have pushed the limit once again in terms of originality and gameplay, and continue to do so every year. So without further ado, here’s our Gift Guide for 2009’s best Shooters, take your pick soldier!
Watch Out You Watchers
Posted in 360, Dark Void, PC, PS3 by Raphael Essoo-Snowdon on Monday 23 November 2009 4:30 pmCapcom have just released a new gameplay trailer for Dark Void and have gotten me all excited for January – as if I wasn’t already. I really hope this game delivers on all fronts, like many of you I’ve had my eye on it for a while now. At least we know one thing is certain, you wouldn’t want to look up and see this guy whilst hanging from a ledge. Watch out you Watchers!
MAG: Our Smaller Action Game
Posted in Eurogamer Expo 09 by Raphael Essoo-Snowdon on Friday 20 November 2009 8:51 pmUnfortunately we weren’t able to take part in MAG’s 256-man war, we did however have a stab at a smaller battle and can come out saying we thoroughly enjoyed it. A lot of tweaking needs to go on in terms of balancing the weapons but it’s looking promising, as well as requiring a lot of co-operation, patience and headsets.
First Bit: Left 4 Dead 2

Out of Her Hair Came a Dog
Posted in 360, Bayonetta, Eurogamer Expo 09, PS3 by Raphael Essoo-Snowdon on Friday 20 November 2009 12:46 pmBeing the first game I laid eyes upon, Bayonetta lived up to expectation and didn’t disappoint. Was this because it felt like Devil May Cry? Was it the fact she looked like a hot Sarah Palin? Or was it the giant dog that came from within her hair leaving her half naked? It was probably all of the above which can be seen in the video, above.
Lost Planet 2 Multiplayer Gameplay
Posted in 360, Eurogamer Expo 09, Lost Planet 2, PS3, Xbox Live by Raphael Essoo-Snowdon on Friday 20 November 2009 10:38 amDespite our terrible performance in other games that day we did manage to get our own back in Lost Planet 2‘s Online Multiplayer, even if it meant spamming the Vital Suit Machine to do just that. You’ll sense some familiarity if you ever played Bionic Commando earlier in the year, the online multiplayer mode will feature up to 16-player versus, 4 player cooperative mode, and will contain game modes from the previous game.
