“HYDROOOO THUNDER!” Ah yes, how can those of us who poured quarters into the arcades in the late nineties forget about the classic, boost-filled arcade racer. For those of you less familiar with the franchise, Hydro Thunder was an arcade game released in 1999 that benefited from it’s over the top jumps, drops and roaring high-speed boats. The series had been left untouched for years until Vector Unit and Microsoft Game Studios teamed up to reimagine the sequel, Hydro Thunder: Hurricane. Does the successor live up to its famous arcade predecessor – hit the jump to find out! Read more »

One of the more quieter announcements this afternoon was that Limbo, a game I’ve had my eye on for a while now, would be here just in time for this year’s annual Xbox Live Summer of Arcade.

In Limbo the player assumes the role of a young boy, uncertain of his sister’s fate he enters “Limbo” and sets off on a journey of unproportional magnitude through a hauntingly beautiful world. Check out the game’s trailer after the break. Read More »

Perfect Dark Review: No Expansion Pak Required

Posted in Perfect Dark, Reviews, XBLA, Xbox 360 by Raphael Essoo-Snowdon on Monday 29 March 2010 6:11 am

Perfect Dark

Two generations ago the spiritual successor to GoldenEye 007, Perfect Dark was arguably the best shooter to have ever graced the consoles. Bursting with so much content at the time, it required a compulsory memory upgrade if you intended on playing the full game. Ten years on and 4J Studios, the team behind the XBLA Banjo remakes have worked their magic and given Perfect Dark the treatment it so rightly deserved. Times have changed though, we no longer need four controllers or a big enough TV to accommodate split screen, and rounding up four friends for a good old fragfest is a thing of the past. With almost a decade in between the remake and its original launch on the N64, does this classic stand the test of time? Read More »

New Perfect Dark XBLA Screens

Posted in Perfect Dark, XBLA, Xbox 360 by Raphael Essoo-Snowdon on Friday 11 December 2009 1:00 pm

Joanna Dark in HD

The rejected Goldeneye sequel for the N64 would later become Perfect Dark, the critically acclaimed success that kept me and my best friend up, night after night. While a remake of the classic Goldeneye 007 is now a mere pipe dream, this my friend is no fantasy.

Rare have opened the floodgates this week by releasing a batch of new screens from the XBLA remake of Perfect Dark and have set in motion tongues wagging across the world. Sadly the game won’t be available until early 2010, which is understandable by the sheer amount of work the team at Rare and 4J Studios have put into these glorious HD remakes (comparison gallery below). Can you believe it’s nearly been 10 years since we first laid eyes on Miss Joanna Dark?
