So here’s one surprise we didn’t see coming. As you know by now, Gabe Newell’s been pretty outspoken when speaking about the PlayStation 3, so it shocked us when he took the stage at Sony’s E3 briefing to revise his views on the company’s home console:

I’ve been pretty outspoken in my comments about the current generation of game consoles. So I’d really like to thank everyone at Sony for their gracious hospitality and for not repeatedly punching me in the face.

Praising the open nature of Sony’s console, he then went on to announce Portal 2 with Steamworks support for the PlayStation 3, stating it would be the best version on ANY console – take THAT Microsoft! Portal 2′s official trailer followed the announcement, check out the trailer here.

Metal Gear: Rising Rips Open E3

Posted in E3 2010, Metal Gear Solid: Rising, Microsoft, PS3, Xbox 360 by Raphael Essoo-Snowdon on Tuesday 15 June 2010 4:06 am

Just like last year, in an attempt to rub fanboys up the wrong way, Kojima-san took the stage at Microsoft’s Briefing to shed some light on the latest game in the series, Metal Gear Solid: Rising. The trailer’s tag “Cut at Will” was used as Raiden ripped through enemies and objects with flair, choosing the angles as he went.

One a side note you’d think a sword-based action game would be a perfect fit for Natal Kinect, no? Trailer after the jump. What will you cut? Read More »

Building upon the original, Media Molecule states it’s no longer about just making levels, but entire games. Crytek UK Files TimeSplitters Trademark

Posted in Crytek, Crytek UK, PC, PS3, TimeSplitters, Wii, Xbox 360 by Raphael Essoo-Snowdon on Wednesday 5 May 2010 10:34 pm

Crytek UK, formerly known as Free Radical (the studio behind the popular TimeSplitters franchise), have filed a patent for *drumroll*… TimeSplitters: Future Perfect. Not what you expected huh? Not to worry, this isn’t a bad thing – let me explain.
As much as I and every other monkey lover would have loved to see the follow-up filed instead, it’s good to know the team still have TimeSplitters on the brain.

A remake would definitely build interest for a possible sequel, or even a downloadable re-release. Some have even suggested TimeSplitters might be making its long-awaited debut onto the PC. Heck, whatever it is I’ll take two of whatever they’re selling! Stay tuned for more info.
