Project Needlemouse = Sonic 4?

It started with a teaser trailer that gave hope to Sonic fans across the globe. Code named Project Needlemouse, Sega are hoping to return our favourite blue hedgehog to his former glory in a classy “2D style” adventure built from the ground up. Sadly this trailer was released way back in September and not a word has been heard since…that is until now.

Over the past few weeks Sega of America have begun to tease, trickling out information bit by bit via their blog, to the point where even fans have made some truly exciting discoveries. Now this is where it gets interesting, not only does sonicthehedgehog4.com point to Sega’s main website but a quick WHOIS lookup of the domain reveals the personal email address of a Brandon Laurino, the same Brandon Laurino of Sega. Coincidence? I think not.

So what have we learnt so far? Well these past few weeks have revealed that there’s a sole focus on the hedgehog, meaning he’s to be the only playable character. Familiar badniks will return whilst characters from the Sonic universe have unfortunately not made the cut, sorry Tails. Shellcracker (below) has aged wonderfully and although sounding like one, this is not a HD remake of Sonic 1. Is it me or does this all sounds promising, are Sega finally getting it?

More news should start rolling in as of today, for it is “the Week of the Hedgehog” (Sega’s words. Not mine!) We’ll be sure to keep you updated on what’s happening, promised is an official name reveal, more concept art and giveaways throughout the course of the week. According to Sega, “February is going to be a very good month”, something I can most definitely believe. On the flip side I kinda disappointed, was hoping on seeing Pikachu in that Sombrero *sighs*.
