Major Nelson has revealed that as of April 15, 2010 Microsoft will be discontinuing the Xbox LIVE service for original Xbox consoles and games, including Xbox 1 games playable on Xbox 360.

I know, just let that news sink in for a moment.

That’s right ladies and gentlemen, today marks the end of an era in video game history. The original LIVE service was a pioneer in online connectivity between gamers. Unable to comment on the specifics of the decision on his blog, Major Nelson stresses that the choice will allow the company to, “continue evolving the LIVE service with new features and experiences that fully harness the power of Xbox 360 and the Xbox LIVE community.”

So, as you go about your busy lives today, take a moment to look back and remember all the great memories you and your first Live account have shared – because those days are now numbered, friends.
